Airtel Nigeria Partners with Manufacturers to Drive 5G Adoption Through Affordable Devices

Airtel Nigeria is tackling a key barrier to 5G adoption in Nigeria: the high cost of compatible smartphones. The telecom giant has announced it is collaborating with smartphone manufacturers to make 5G-enabled devices more affordable, a move aimed at accelerating the widespread use of its next-generation network. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure that Nigerians can fully benefit from the enhanced speeds and capabilities of 5G technology.

Building a Complete 5G Ecosystem

Speaking at a media briefing on August 5, 2025, Airtel Nigeria CEO Dinesh Balsingh emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to 5G deployment. He stated that 5G’s success in Nigeria hinges not only on network infrastructure but also on readily available and affordable 5G devices. “5G is not only about telecom infrastructure. It’s an ecosystem where devices and networks must come together,” Balsingh said. He further highlighted that while Airtel has made significant strides in expanding its 5G coverage in major Nigerian cities and boasts near-complete 4G coverage nationwide, affordable devices are crucial to bridge the gap and enable mass adoption. Without accessible 5G phones, the potential of the network remains untapped.

Airtel’s proactive engagement with device manufacturers signals a commitment to creating a thriving 5G ecosystem in Nigeria, where infrastructure development is complemented by device affordability, ultimately empowering consumers to leverage the benefits of this transformative technology.
