Bouira Launches Project to Connect Tilesdit Dam to Tighremt Desalination Plant
A crucial project aimed at bolstering the water supply across several municipalities in the Bouira province of Algeria has commenced. The project focuses on linking the Tilesdit dam in Bechloul, located east of Bouira, to the Tighremt seawater desalination plant (SDEM) in Béjaia. The installation of the project’s construction site was overseen by the Wali (Governor) Abdelkrim Laâmouri.
Strengthening Water Infrastructure
According to the Algeria Press Service (APS), Governor Laâmouri emphasized the strategic importance of the project to the press during the site installation. The initiative involves constructing a series of facilities and a connecting network to link the Tilesdit dam with the Tighremt SDEM. This connection aims to significantly improve the supply of potable water, particularly in municipalities prone to water shortages, especially during peak summer months. The Tighremt seawater desalination plant is a key component of strategic projects approved by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reinforcing Algeria’s commitment to enhancing water security.
This infrastructure project represents a significant step towards addressing water scarcity issues in the region, contributing to improved living conditions and sustainable development within the affected communities. By integrating existing water resources with desalination technology, Bouira is taking a proactive approach to ensuring a reliable water supply for its residents.
