MTN Media Innovation Programme Fellows Experience Huawei’s Cutting-Edge 5G Innovations in Lagos
Last week, the fourth cohort of the MTN Media Innovation Programme (MTN-MIP) embarked on an illuminating experiential tour of Huawei’s advanced 5G innovation hub, Cloud Service, and Service Centre in Lagos. This immersive visit was a collaborative effort by the MTN Nigeria team and Huawei, designed to enrich the participants’ learning journey with the School of Media and Communications at Pan-Atlantic University. It offered the aspiring media professionals a unique, hands-on insight into the technologies shaping Africa’s digital landscape.
Exploring Huawei’s 5G and Digital Solutions
At the heart of the innovation hub, the MTN-MIP fellows were treated to comprehensive demonstrations of Huawei’s diverse technological capabilities. These included sophisticated smart city solutions, robust power solutions, cutting-edge improved router and antenna designs, and versatile cloud solutions. The showcase underscored Huawei’s pivotal role as a resilient and integral partner, driving MTN’s strategic evolution from merely a connectivity provider to a robust digital enabler across the continent. A particular highlight was the demonstration of an AI video auto-creator software. This innovative tool could generate engaging 30-second high-definition videos, complete with avatars derived from quick guest selfies. Leveraging the immense power and speed of 5G connectivity, these videos were produced in under a minute and instantly transmitted to participants’ mobile devices via Wi-Fi, offering a tangible example of the transformative potential of advanced wireless technology.
This strategic tour provided MTN-MIP fellows with invaluable exposure to the foundational technologies propelling digital transformation in Nigeria and beyond. It reinforced the importance of understanding technological advancements for media professionals, equipping them with the knowledge to accurately report on the evolving tech ecosystem. Such initiatives underscore MTN’s commitment to nurturing media talent and fostering a deeper appreciation for the innovations that are digitally empowering communities across Africa.
