Fiat’s Oran Factory: A Subcontracting Partnership Unveiled
Stellantis El Djazair, the Algerian arm of the Stellantis Group, announced a second subcontracting partnership with the Italian automotive supplier Sigit. This agreement signifies a growing commitment to local manufacturing for the Fiat factory in Tafraoui, Oran. The arrangement, formalized during the Algerian-Italian intergovernmental summit held in Rome, will see Sigit producing plastic components in Algeria in collaboration with the National Plastics and Rubber Company (ENPC). This project highlights the ongoing investment in African automotive manufacturing and its potential for job creation and economic development within the region.
Expanding Local Component Production
The recent deal, signed during a summit co-chaired by the Algerian President and the Italian Prime Minister, allows Sigit to expand its production capacity for the Fiat plant. Specifically, Sigit will manufacture new plastic parts in Algeria, utilizing a partnership with ENPC, operating through its subsidiary, Siplast. The agreement is built upon a previous contract established between the two companies back in May 2023. This strategic approach to component sourcing demonstrates Stellantis El Djazair’s commitment to strengthen local supply chains and enhance the integration of Algerian industries within the automotive manufacturing process.
This collaboration underscores the importance of international partnerships in fostering technological transfer and driving growth within the African automotive sector. The continued investment in local production not only supports the Fiat factory but also contributes to the development of a more robust and self-sufficient industrial ecosystem within Algeria, ultimately benefiting the country’s economy.
