MTN Pumps R300 Million into Gauteng to Strengthen Digital Infrastructure
MTN South Africa has announced a major investment of over R300 million to significantly upgrade its network infrastructure across Gauteng. This strategic initiative is set to bolster the company’s presence in the nation’s economic heartland, delivering faster and more resilient digital connectivity to millions of residents and businesses. The provincial upgrade is a key part of MTN’s larger R4.5 billion national rollout planned for 2025, which aims to modernize South Africa’s digital framework and extend high-speed network access, especially to underserved communities.
Strategic Upgrades to Power Connectivity
The comprehensive Gauteng plan includes a multi-faceted approach to network enhancement. A primary focus will be on expanding coverage through the construction of new base stations and upgrading the capacity of more than 70 existing sites. A significant portion of the investment is also earmarked for crucial improvements to energy supply and resilience. This includes deploying advanced battery systems and reinforcing site security to ensure a stable and reliable network, even amidst energy challenges. These targeted actions are designed to create a robust infrastructure capable of handling increasing data demands and supporting next-generation digital services.
