FAB’s Lime App Launches in Egypt, Targeting Education Finance with $9.4 Million Investment

First Abu Dhabi Bank Group’s (FAB) Lime Consumer Finance, a new fintech player, has officially entered Egypt’s rapidly expanding fintech landscape. The app, focusing initially on education financing, has launched with a significant investment of $9.4 million. This move highlights the growing importance of financial technology in the region and the specific need for accessible solutions in key sectors like education, particularly given the large youth population in Egypt.

Addressing Education Finance Needs in Egypt

Lime’s primary focus is to provide structured and transparent financial solutions for Egyptian families. Licensed by Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), the app allows families to plan and manage educational expenses across a network of nurseries, schools, and universities. Recognizing the significant portion of the Egyptian population under 15, with over 30% of the population in 2025, education finance is a pressing need. Lime offers installment options that range from 6 to 12 months for amounts up to EGP 1 million. The onboarding process and financing approvals are entirely digital, facilitating convenient and fast access to funds. Lime intends to expand its financial offerings to other crucial sectors beyond education in the future, aiming to empower Egyptian citizens through wider access to financial tools.

In conclusion, Lime’s entry into the Egyptian fintech market is a significant development, particularly for the African fintech scene. With its substantial investment and strategic focus on education financing, the app is well-positioned to address a critical need in the Egyptian market and contribute to greater financial inclusion, supporting the country’s long-term development goals.
