.NG Academy Fortifies Nigerian Security Agencies Against Cyber Threats
In a significant move to bolster Nigeria’s cybersecurity defenses, .NG Academy, a digital skills development initiative, recently concluded a three-day training program from July 25th to 27th, 2023. This collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), focused on equipping key security agencies with critical digital technology skills. This is especially vital in the African context, where the rise of digital technologies necessitates robust cybersecurity measures.
Training the Frontline: Building Cybersecurity Capacity
The training, specifically designed for Nigerian security agencies, reflects the critical role they play in combating cybercrime. Participants included high-ranking officials from a diverse range of organizations, including the EFCC, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps, Code of Conduct Bureau, Department of State Security, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, and other agencies crucial to national security. The comprehensive program aimed to enhance the capacity of these agencies to understand and respond to the growing threat of cyberattacks, equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to safeguard the nation’s digital landscape. This type of training directly addresses the need to build a stronger, more resilient digital infrastructure within Nigeria and, by extension, throughout Africa.
