Algeria Forges Tech Partnership with China to Digitize Tourism

Algeria’s tourism sector is poised for a significant digital overhaul following a landmark agreement between the national Hôtellerie-Tourisme et Thermalisme (HTT) group and China’s Xiamen Airlines International Travel Service CO.LTD. Signed in Algiers, this framework agreement is designed to leverage technology for the development and digital promotion of Algerian tourism and hotel services. This collaboration marks a crucial step in the nation’s broader digital transformation strategy and highlights a growing trend of African nations adopting advanced tech solutions to modernize and expand their travel industries.

A Strategic Push for Digital Transformation

The official signing ceremony took place at the “El Djazair” hotel and coincided with the closing of the 24th edition of the International Tourism and Travel Fair (SITEV 2025). The high-profile event was presided over by the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Mrs. Houria Meddahi, in the presence of government members, senior state officials, and ambassadors accredited to Algeria. Minister Meddahi affirmed that the agreement with the People’s Republic of China is “in line with our efforts and our approach to digitizing the tourism sector,” which she identified as a “strategic challenge.” This partnership directly supports Algeria’s national agenda to integrate modern technology into key economic sectors.

This collaboration between Algeria’s HTT group and Xiamen Airlines represents a pivotal move towards building a digitally-powered tourism economy. By focusing on the digital development of its travel products and services, Algeria aims to enhance its global visibility and improve the experience for international tourists. This technology-centric initiative demonstrates the country’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships to drive innovation, ensuring it remains competitive in the dynamic global and African tourism landscape.
