Algeria Aims to Attract 4 Million Tourists by 2025

Algeria has set an ambitious goal to welcome 4 million tourists by the end of 2025, leveraging enhanced promotional strategies and streamlined administrative processes. This target was announced by the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi, during a study day focused on digital innovation in tourism, held in Algiers on July 13, 2025.

Strategic Initiatives for Tourism Growth

According to Minister Meddahi, Algeria witnessed the arrival of approximately 3.5 million tourists in 2024. This figure includes 2.5 million foreign visitors and one million members of the Algerian diaspora. These results are attributed to promotional efforts undertaken by the tourism sector, particularly the introduction of simplified procedures for obtaining tourist visas, specifically targeting travel to the Algerian Great South. The minister also emphasized the economic and social significance of the tourism sector, highlighting its contribution to the creation of approximately 450,000 direct and indirect jobs.

By focusing on digital innovation and easing travel restrictions, Algeria is positioning itself as an increasingly attractive destination for international tourists, contributing to economic growth and job creation within the country.
