The company recently engaged in crucial discussions with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, exploring potential collaborative avenues to fast-track Ghana’s shift towards sustainable transportation and renewable energy adoption across the country. This proactive engagement underscores Solar Taxi’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s journey toward a low-carbon future and expanding the reach of electric mobility solutions.
Driving E-Mobility Innovation and Local Assembly
During a courtesy visit to Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan-Mensah, Solar Taxi’s leadership conveyed a strong desire to forge a strategic alliance with the Ministry. This partnership aims to align their operational mission with national objectives of transitioning to cleaner energy sources and establishing a robust low-carbon transportation infrastructure. Solar Taxi, which commenced its operations in 2019, has a notable track record in the burgeoning Ghanaian EV sector. The company began by locally assembling electric two-wheelers in 2021 before diversifying its production to include three- and four-wheeled electric vehicles. To date, this pioneering Ghanaian firm has proudly assembled over 500 electric vehicles within the country, demonstrating significant local manufacturing capability. Looking ahead, Solar Taxi is actively collaborating with international partners to expand its electric bus programme, a move that could transform public transportation in Ghana and further cement its position as a key player in Africa’s green mobility landscape.
The discussions represent a pivotal moment for Ghana’s sustainable development agenda, highlighting the crucial role of private sector innovation in achieving national environmental and energy goals. Solar Taxi’s initiatives, particularly its local assembly efforts and expansion into electric buses, are integral to building a resilient and sustainable transportation ecosystem in Ghana, paving the way for a cleaner, greener future for the West African nation.
