Sacco IT Professionals Association Launched: A Digital Leap for Kenya’s Cooperatives
The evolution of Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) in Kenya is rapidly shifting toward digitized operations. To keep pace with this change, the establishment of a dedicated support system for information technology professionals is crucial. Kenya’s cooperative sector has taken a significant step forward in this regard with the official launch of the Sacco IT Professionals Association (SITPA) in Nairobi. This new association aims to strengthen the digital infrastructure of SACCOs, fostering innovation, ethical practices, and teamwork within the financial cooperative landscape.
Strengthening the Digital Foundation of Kenyan SACCOs
SITPA’s core objective is to unite IT professionals working in SACCOs across Kenya. The association provides a platform for them to collaborate, share knowledge, and collectively advance the digital capabilities of their respective institutions. The launch event attracted a diverse group of stakeholders, including high-ranking government officials, technology innovators, financial leaders, regulatory bodies, and, of course, SACCO IT specialists. The presence of these key figures underscored the commitment to improving the digital framework of Kenya’s cooperative movement. Engineer John Tanui, Principal Secretary of the State Department of ICT and the Digital Economy, acknowledged the importance of SITPA, calling its establishment a major turning point.
The formation of SITPA marks a significant stride toward bolstering the technological capacity of SACCOs, which will ultimately benefit both the organizations and their members. This collaborative effort is expected to propel the cooperative sector in Kenya towards greater efficiency, security, and member engagement, all through a strong digital foundation.
