FG, NITDA Pledge Robust Cybersecurity at Maiden National Cybersecurity Conference
The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s digital landscape. This dedication involves significantly enhancing cybersecurity resilience to effectively counter the escalating array of digital threats confronting the West African nation. This vital assurance was delivered by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, in Abuja, during the landmark inaugural National Cybersecurity Conference (NCSC). The event, a collaborative effort between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the NSA’s office, marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s journey towards a secure digital future.
A Call to Action for Nigeria’s Digital Future
The two-day conference, held on a Wednesday in Abuja, was aptly themed “Building a Resilient Digital Future.” It served as a crucial platform, attracting an impressive turnout of 175 diverse organizations. These included various embassies, government ministries, federal agencies, leading universities, and prominent technology firms, all converging to discuss Nigeria’s cybersecurity trajectory. NSA Ribadu underscored the profound importance of the conference’s theme, stating that “Building a resilient digital future is not just a theme; it’s a call to action.” He further elaborated on the dual nature of Nigeria’s rapid digital transformation, acknowledging that while it unlocks significant economic opportunities, it simultaneously introduces increased vulnerabilities. Consequently, Ribadu emphasized that “resilience is no longer optional,” highlighting its foundational importance in navigating the complexities of the digital age. This significant gathering represents a unified front in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by Nigeria’s evolving digital landscape.
The successful organization of the inaugural NCSC signifies a major stride in Nigeria’s proactive approach to cybersecurity. By bringing together a wide spectrum of stakeholders and emphasizing the critical need for collective resilience, the Federal Government, through NITDA and the NSA’s office, is clearly demonstrating its resolve to establish a fortified and secure digital environment for all Nigerians, ensuring the nation’s continued digital growth and prosperity.
