AI Education Soars in Nigeria: NerdzFactory and Raspberry Pi Foundation Join Forces
A groundbreaking initiative is set to transform AI education in Nigeria. NerdzFactory Company, in collaboration with the Raspberry Pi Foundation and with funding from Google.org, has launched “Experience AI in Nigeria,” a program designed to equip educators with the skills to introduce artificial intelligence concepts to secondary school students. This ambitious project aims to train 3,150 teachers across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Ekiti states, impacting the learning of over 157,000 students.
# Empowering Nigerian Educators for an AI-Driven Future
Recognizing the critical role of AI in Nigeria’s future economic growth, “Experience AI” focuses on building foundational AI skills among both teachers and students. This initiative directly addresses the growing need for AI literacy in the country, aligning with Nigeria’s National AI Strategy. As a Public First report suggests, AI has the potential to contribute up to US $15 billion to the Nigerian economy by 2030, contingent on developing a skilled local workforce capable of responsibly creating and implementing AI technologies. This program helps translate the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy’s commitment of ₦2.8 billion, announced in 2024, into practical, impactful training on the ground.
This partnership represents a significant step towards fostering a generation of digitally literate Nigerians ready to contribute to the rapidly evolving AI landscape. By empowering teachers with the necessary tools and knowledge, “Experience AI in Nigeria” paves the way for a future where young Nigerians are not just consumers of AI technology, but also innovators and leaders in the field.
