BioSapien Secures Over $8 Million in Extended Pre-Series A Funding for Innovative Cancer Treatment Platform

Healthtech innovator BioSapien, with operations in the UAE and the US, has successfully extended its pre-Series A funding round, exceeding $8 million. This latest injection of capital includes investment from Globivest, adding to an already impressive list of backers including Global Ventures, Golden Gate Ventures, and Dara Holdings. The funding underscores the growing investor confidence in BioSapien’s groundbreaking MediChip™ technology and its potential to revolutionize localized cancer treatment.

Fueling Growth and Global Expansion

Founded in 2018 by Khatija Ali, BioSapien has developed MediChip™, a unique 3D-printed, slow-release drug delivery platform. This innovative technology is designed to attach directly to any tissue, offering targeted treatment with minimal systemic side effects. The newly secured funds will be strategically deployed to accelerate product development and facilitate global expansion efforts. As part of this growth strategy, BioSapien has onboarded 12 new executives across critical departments, including R&D, medical affairs, regulatory, and operations. Key appointments include Joseph Borrello, PhD, as Chief Technology Officer and Sonia Ramamoorthy, MD MBA FAC, as Head of Medical Affairs, strengthening the company’s leadership team with experienced professionals.

This funding round and strategic hires position BioSapien for significant advancements in its mission to provide localized and effective cancer treatment solutions, potentially offering a more targeted approach with fewer side effects compared to traditional methods. The focus on global expansion suggests the company’s ambition to bring its innovative technology to a wider patient population, potentially including markets within Africa facing challenges in cancer treatment accessibility.
