Orange Tunisie Awards Young Social Entrepreneurs in Tunisia

Orange Tunisie Champions Young Social Entrepreneurs and Launches National Women’s Prize with UNDP Tunisia

Orange Tunisie recently celebrated innovation and social impact in Tunisia by announcing the winners of the Orange Social Entrepreneur Prize in Africa and the Middle East (POESAM). The initiative, held on September 8th in Tunis, recognized four exceptional Tunisian projects with significant social impact, who will now proceed to the international finals. This year’s competition saw the introduction of a new element, the National Women’s Prize, developed in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to highlight female entrepreneurship and foster inclusive innovation within the Tunisian tech ecosystem.

Fostering Innovation and Supporting Tunisian Entrepreneurs

This 15th edition of the POESAM competition saw a surge in participation, with 136 projects submitted. These projects encompassed a wide range of sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, energy, mobility, and environmental sustainability, demonstrating the diverse talent within the Tunisian entrepreneurial landscape. This diversity highlights the critical role of emerging technologies in developing lasting solutions to crucial societal issues in Tunisia and across the African continent. A panel of judges, which included representatives from Orange, assessed the projects. This focus on innovation reflects the broader movement within African tech towards sustainable and community-focused solutions. The emphasis on female entrepreneurship, via the new award, is also a key consideration in fostering greater inclusion and further developing the sector.
