X Faces Global Outage Amid Cloudflare Network Issues
Popular social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, is currently experiencing a widespread outage, impacting thousands of users globally. Reports indicate that users are facing challenges loading posts on both the mobile app and the web browser version of the platform. This disruption highlights the reliance of African users on social media for communication and information.
Cloudflare Identified as the Root Cause
The outage appears to be stemming from a global issue with Cloudflare, a prominent American provider of web security and Content Delivery Network (CDN) services. The technical difficulty started around 11 am, and Downdetector recorded close to 12,000 users reporting problems accessing X. These users are encountering error messages stating that posts are not loading. Cloudflare acknowledged the issues earlier in the day and confirmed it was investigating the matter, potentially impacting multiple customers. The CDN’s reach means that the outage likely affected users across Africa, where fast and reliable internet access is still a challenge for many, highlighting the importance of resilient infrastructure in the digital age. Other platforms, including Downdetector, briefly faced similar challenges.
The ongoing situation underscores the interconnectedness of online services and the critical role of infrastructure providers like Cloudflare in maintaining digital accessibility. X has not yet issued an official statement regarding the outage.
