Why They Continue to Celebrate Christopher Columbus?

Not All Europeans are Christopher Columbus but his genocide and violence gave an entire continent to Europeans to go to live in with all the resources there.

America is now a European continent, taken away from the original people who have been exterminated or now parked in reserves. Thanks to whom …?

Not All Europeans are Colonizers of Africa or salves traders but slave trade and colonization had provided the seed capital for the industrial revolution in Europe which benefited a majority of Europeans in terms of overall improved life conditions.

Not all European are in NATO, but NATO wars and crimes are committed for the white supremacy maintenance in the world by further extension of the western empire and access to resources. If you happen to be white, you know quite well how white supremacy ideology and practice benefit all white people regardless of their personal opinion about it.

Similarly, Not all people in a country are soldiers in the army, but the lands conquered by theses soldiers bring wealth to their country, to provide social services, health insurance and the prestige they enjoy as citizen of a developed country.

The truth is that For Europeans to continue enjoying their current lifestyle, their military forces have to go invade, occupy, and loot foreign lands, kill or enslave millions of people.

It’s easy to enjoy the benefit of the European violence at individual level but dilute the responsibility at group level. As a reader put it “the public enjoys the “blanket” and doesn’t ask about what it takes to maintain it.”

I’d agree, not all Europeans enjoy the benefits of those crimes in the same proportion but when you are at the other end of the violence which is bringing in those results, you paint a different picture.

I’m of this generation of peace activist who think the topic of European violence against foreign populations should be talked about and taken directly to the people of Europe, making them conscience about crimes committed in their collective name, and hopefully they would mobilize to hold their government accountable or more transparent.

I’ve written few posts here on SiliconAfrica with the purpose to share my understanding of why Europeans are so violent, because most of the wars an violence in Africa is sponsored or backed by Europeans directly or indirectly.

This kind of post elicit lot of reaction from ordinary european who usually would like to dissociate themselves from their elite and their governments actions abroad. They are rightfully appalled by the untold level of violence, deception and cruelty their governments used on foreign people. In fact, very few ordinary Europeans have any idea of the criminal activities of their governments at places like Africa.

For those of us who are not Europeans, we want to see more european talking about their nations issue with violence, and how to control it for more peace in the world.

That’s said, superiority in violence and application of violence is what makes Europeans powerful in the current world. Asking them to renounce their superiority in the application of violence is like asking them to voluntary renounce their throne, and their main tool to Privilege and resources.

As far as Europeans continue to celebrate Christopher Columbus, other nations have no choice than learning the arcane of violence and apply it when appropriate for their defense.

    Mauwana et all,
You may already know this but, you have to be wary of some of the characters posting responses/ comments. I am aware of at least one who comments heavily on other African centered blogs/ forums.
With that in mind some governments are very much into the games of infiltrating social media (you are all aware of the shenanigans that have occurred in Cuba, you have seen them tests by FaceBook, there are many examples), these are mainly to influence or manipulate public opinion. We need to keep an eye out for those characters who have a knack of extracting reactions. 'Hank Wilson' stands out, interesting choice of handle! People please Google that name..
It is my wish that we (Africans) stop seeking approval or validation from the ARMED MAN (Europeans) in anything we do venture into, why do we need their acceptance? I mean we do not recognize any of our own to when they receive a Grammy, Oscar or Nobel (or that charlatanic Nobel in Economics) or we do recognize God to when some missionary points at a thing and says ' that is your salvation'!. Or when they tell us we have a huge middle class (someone who spends between USD2 and USD20 a day! whilst upper middle class is classed as someone who spends between USD10 and USD20 a day), why do we not set our own standards? why don’t we set our own bench marks? I do not seem to hear Chinese, Brazilians, Indians etc whining that they have been denied an Oscar nomination? Why don’t we set our own agendas? every discourse in the mainstream is set by the ARMED MAN (i.e. monopoly of discourse), the ARMED man decides what will be discussed today and what we shall THINK today..
The moment those who have brutalized us realize that they cannot or do not control our cognitive map (how we think), what sets in is cognitive dissonance, they know you can see them for who they really are. A word of warning when the armed man (European) is uncomfortable they will either label you a nut job or blood is shed.
My point if pretty simple, we do not need to debate or even respond to the armed man (his rep or his puppets) when we are discussing amongst ourselves, ignore them I repeat ignore them.

Ps. Why the term 'Armed Man' a little reading of history clearly justifies that title, there is no group in the world that has not met with the violence of the European.
