The Best Customers Management Tools You Can Use for Free in Your Company

crmYou know you are becoming a real business when you start using a CRM.

Customers Relationship Management (CRM) tools help companies gain higher efficiency in their interactions with their current and future customers. A typical CRM involves using technology to organize, automate, and synchronize contacts, sales, marketing, customer service, and support.

During the last 3 months our small marketing firm Goodbuzz has been steadily growing , and we have decided to find a CRM system that we could easily install, test and use for free at this stage without overly committing our future to a mainstream and commercial solutions.

We are still testing, pondering, and learning, but as a way of sharing what we have found and evaluated, here is a list of  the top 7 CRM you can install, test and use for free in your  startup or company.

1. Sugar CRM

SugarCRM was one of the very first free, open source customer management tool available. However, over the years the open source version got slowly abandoned, barely updated, and continually stripped out of the best features which are now only available for the commercial version. The developers community which have made the product attractive to millions have now evaporated, and the numerous plugins available few years ago have not been updated since.

Still, the SugarCRM community version is a good deal for small teams looking for a robust and proven CRM application. Instructions for downloading and installation are here:

2. vTiger CRM

vTiger CRM is one of the very few truly free and open source CRM available. As the team rightfully claimed it’s the “CRM Without Boundaries”, because the open source version contains all the features of the commercial version.

3. Zurmo CRM

Zurmo is the small CRM without the headache. It’s built to be simple, focused on the most used features in the most popular CRM. For small teams looking for a CRM that could be deployed without heavy training sessions, and more interaction between marketing and sales team, Zurmo could be the right choice.

OpenCRX the most complete open source CRM with Enterprise level stack based on Java platform. It’s full of features required by more mature organizations. OpenCRX also comes with multifunctional, enterprise-wide coordination of sales generation, sales fulfillment, marketing and service activities to customers, partners, suppliers or intermediaries.

5. Fat Free CRM

Fat Free CRM is the best free open source alternative to HighriseCRM. It’s full featured, free, 100% open source, and have a growing and dedicated developers community. It’s “Ruby on Rails” based, and instructions for downloading and installation are here:

6. X2CRM

X2engine CRM is the best open source CRM yet. It’s my personal favorite, tough I hate the commercial restrictions. I’m currently using it on a trial mode with my company, and would eventually upgrade if the tests are conclusive (tough I’m still thinking it’s better to opt for Vtiger).

7. OroCRM

OroCRM is an emerging CRM with focus on usability, simplicity and great design. The current version could be deployed in production by small teams willing to influence the future of the product as the developers team is very active listening and sharing feedback with the early adopters. Very cool approach and nice stuff.
